This site is designed and run by Sam Hawcroft, of Hawk Editorial Ltd, Hull. She is passionate about all things Hull and cats… so decided to combine the two in her quirky artwork and fun products.
Having completed a degree in English and a Masters in film and literature at Hull University, Sam first went into journalism at the Hull Daily Mail in 2000. She later worked for the Press Association in various roles including Teletext assistant editor and TV listings operations manager, as well as editing the PA’s main news wire and working on sports pages for national and regional newspapers. More recently, she was a sub-editor on the Daily Telegraph, across supplements, news features and news.
She is managing director of Hawk Editorial, which in October 2012 became the new publisher of H&E naturist magazine – an 88-page title that is the oldest and most popular naturist magazine in the world – and is also the editor of the Holderness & Hornsea Gazette. She writes for BusinessWorks magazine and is the Hull City reporter for The Hull Story.
Born and bred in East Yorkshire, she is a keen Hull City fan, and sings in local folk bands Fiddler’s Elbow and Beggar’s Bridge and solo as Sam Martyn. She is a member of local art group Riverside Artists, where she sells some of her Hull Cats and other artwork.
Pictured below are her colleagues George (grey) and Lucas (black and white) – sleeping on the job as per usual. Sam’s cat designs were originally inspired by them – after she adopted them from Cats Protection in February 2016.
